Chisel & Mallet Selector
Match the tool to the stone and the stage you are working.
The wrong tool for the stone is the fastest way to ruin an edge, a surface, or a block. Fire-sharp carbon steel is perfect up to marble and travertine; on granite it is a waste of steel. This selector applies the usual workshop rules.

Things to know
- These are conventional workshop pairings, not manufacturer specifications.
- Mallet weight guidance follows the usual rule of thumb: heavier stone takes a heavier blow.
- Carbide or diamond is mandatory above about Mohs 6. There is no workaround.
